My 15 minutes of fame

Awhile back, I was approached by Penelope Przekop, an author and artist. She also has a blog called Aberration Nation, and it's all about aberrations, differences and diversity. She found my blog when she was brainstorming about potential additions to her blog. She wanted me to share what compelled me to have a large family, what it is like to be raising a large family and the additional stresses that come with having a child with Down syndrome. She felt like my story would be a great fit for Aberration Nation and interviewed me for her blog.

Go check it out: All My Children: An Aberration Story and learn more than you ever wanted to know about me and my family!

What a great article! Well done!

I really enjoyed your article. I can relate to a lot of it, even without a special needs child: The invisible child, not going a lot of places with just me and the kids, worrying about spending enough one on one time.
Great job Heather!

Heather, I loved the article. Very touching. We have wanted another one but fears of the unknown and also I am old. :-) Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings.

I haven't had a chance to read the article yet . . . I definitely will, but I had to tell you how much I love your family picture. The orange is awesome!!

Loved the article. I think it can be so rewarding to have a big family, but it does have to be so hard to juggle it all. Jamie and I used to watch Jack and Ryan when they were little and talk about how we wanted to have kids close together so they could be like them. We ended up with girls instead, but we still look at your family and one of the things I like most about it is how nice they are to each other. They are good friends. Now I am sure they have their moments, but when I watch them you really can tell they enjoy spending time together. I love that, and want my girls to feel the same way.

I've never really known anyone famous so I'm star struck!!! I was really glad to learn that 34 isn't too old to have more kids-I will make T aware of this immediately. Great Article!

I loved that article! Even though we aren't sure yet if there is a baby #5 in our future, I feel the need to have another one so people don't feel like he is the reason we stopped. Silly, buy true! Although... I also don't have that "done" feeling. I try daily to include my kids and give them compliments. Justin gets so much attention, even from strangers. I want them to feel important too. I really enjoyed reading that and felt I could relate some. You are a fabulous Mommy!

Great article...sorry I have never realized that we failed to let you know you were loved. "I didn't feel loved or important and I know I don't want that for my children."
I guess as parent's we just do what we feel is the best we can do at the time. Looking back, maybe we should have done more.

Oh my goodness. Totally me! 29 months between Eva and Emma, this one a surprise (they will be 19 months apart) I feel WAY over my head with 5, what am I going to do with 6? (how on earth am I going to sit through Sacrament by my self with 6?)
I am just praying that I will feel that "I'm okay to be done now" after I deliver.....
Good job. I hope I can do as well as you. Maybe if you have a few things that worked for you, you could pass it along?

This was a WONDERFUL article! I have to say I cried, smiled and laughed through it. I was glad to hear you had not told your kids when Morgan was born about ds-we have felt the same way and have wondered when they will really see it-did you ever sit down and explain it later or did they just know as they got older or what? I seriously marvel at you and your family-i would love to meet you in person someday! Knowing that Morgan has younger siblings really did make me feel like I wanted Bree to have them too-hopefully she will. It is a little scary thinking about the unknown now so thanks for sharing your thoughts.I am also so sorry to hear about your loss of the other baby---
anyway it was a wonderful article and you have a wonderful family-I hope to be more like you!
